Download the initial patent file US3505808 submitted to the US patent office by Urs Eschle in 1968. Breaking all the rules, the second and very progressive decision was to use a luminous bright orange dial instead of common classic black and white. The idea behind the orange dial was to achieve high readability under extreme dark diving conditions. The orange face turned out to be a big success, leading to a huge interest in bright colour dials for diver watches, motivating other watch manufacturers to use colourful dials for their diver watches and DOXA itself to continue this success adding new models to their diver line with other unusual colourful dials like in the Searambler (silver) and Divingstar (yellow). |

The DOXA SUB was finally born in 1967 introducing two revolutionary security concepts: breaking all the rules, the first and very progressive decision was to use a luminous bright orange dial instead of common classic black and white to achieve high readability under extreme dark diving conditions. The second innovation was the unidirectional rotating bezel integrating the functionality of a no-decompression limit table to the watch. The official US Navy Air dive table for no-decompression dives was engraved (meters) on the bezel to assist divers in taking care of time and water depth during underwater excursion.
